Master Joe Viljoen introduced his own fighting style called, "Ring Contact Fighting Art" in 1984. In the same year the Professional Karate Association judged Joe Viljoen the International Instructor of the Year thus proving his style against the myriad techniques used in PKA rings.
In 1987 Ring Contact Fighting Art became nationally recognized when a South African "Contact Fighting and Kickboxing" Junior Springbok Team fought against a World team in three tests. The South African team won two of the three tests. Master Joe Viljoen fought against the number one World Contender from Scotland, Derick Croft. During this fight Derick Croft was knocked out in the second round. This fight eliminated Croft from participating in the World Title Fight.
In 1988 Ring Contact Fighting Art became a World Controlling Body. In the same year an unrecognized South African team (because of the political situation) took part in the "Diamond Classic Karate Championships" in America. The South African team was second overall in the team division.
On the 22 April 1989 Master Joe won the WPKA World Title in kickboxing against Christopher Baxter. He was the first South African to win a World Title in Kickboxing. Since then Ring Contact Fighting Art produced 8 more world champions in various kickboxing fighting styles.
In 1990 RCFA introduced (NFK) National Full Contact and Kickboxing to provide a National Organization for the Amateur and Professional fighter in South Africa. This served to get unity in South Africa and one recognized SA Rating in different categories.
In 1991 a RCFA Junior and Senior Springbok Team took part in the "USA Open Championships" in America. The South Africans placed from second to eight in this championship out of more than 3000 participants. In 1992 a Rebel team went to "The Battle of Atlanta" in Atlanta City. The South Africans achieved first and second places.
RCFA hosted The Jungle War tournament in Mmabatho in 1993. The tournament lasted for two days with more than 1500 entries. This was the biggest tournament ever held in South Africa for Kickboxing. The Jungle War consisted of Sport Karate, Semi-contact Fighting, Musical forms and Two RCFA Professional World Title Fights. In 1994 a Rebel team fought against Namibia and won the team competition. Jungle War II was held in the same year in Johannesburg. The tournament was twice as big as the previous year.
In 1996 NFK applied for National recognition and was accepted as member.
